After much protest, and after 133 years of service, Collingbourne Kingston lost its own primary school in 1978, due to the diminishing attendance roll. Instead, provision was made for the pupils to join forces with their peers at the existing school at Collingbourne Ducis. This led to an immediate over crowding problem on a site with no real room for expansion. Happily 2004 saw the completion and occupying of the new Collingbourne CE Primary School in Chicks Lane. The new school retains its status as a Church of Eng land Primary School with a governing body looking after its interests. At present there are 15 school governors, made up to ensure the proper representation of both villages. The present roll lists approximately 100 pupils in the charge of 5 teachers, 4 Teaching Assistants and 8 other staff. Volunteer listeners encourage pupils with their reading skills and with other non-professional tasks and new recruits are always welcome. A strong PTA helps in the school's fund raising activities and other forms of support.
